A BRIEF HISTORY
Reflexology is an ancient practice which dates back to almost 5000 years ago. Ancient civilisations in Egypt, India, China and native America used reflexology techniques as part of their ancient healing cultures.
The most concrete evidence of ancient reflexology practice was the discovery of the wall painting depicting the practice of hand and foot reflexology in the tomb of Ankmahor (highest official after the Pharaoh).
Modern day reflexology developed in the West, and it has ever since evolved. In the early 19th century, Dr William Fitzgerald, also known as the ‘Father of reflexology’, is credited with advancing and developing the initial popular practice of reflexology in our contemporary Western society. Since then, his techniques and work in zone therapy have been evolved by other famous reflexologists such as Eunice Ingham and Dwight Byers.

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?
Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy based on the theory that different pressure points on the feet, lower leg, hands and ears correspond with different areas of the body, which helps the body to restore its balance naturally.
There are over 7000 nerve endings in the human foot and each of these is a reflex point that corresponds to a part of the body. Reflexologists use specialised finger and thumb manipulation to stimulate the flow and energy to the corresponding body part.
Reflexology is a wonderful therapy which can received by anyone at any age from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between, although there are certain times when it may not be suitable to provide a treatment.

A REFLEXOLOGY SESSION
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST SESSION?
Your first session will be slightly longer as a pre-treatment consultation will be carried out and discussed (if not already done so over the phone).
After your treatment your body may respond in different ways:
Some people have an overall general sense of well-being and relaxation, however, sometimes you can feel lethargic, nauseous or emotional. This is a completely normal reaction as part of the healing process and will pass as your body de-toxifies.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST TREATMENT?
We ask that you wear loose fitting trousers that can easily roll up to the knee area.
Clean feet is always appreciated :-)! In any case your feet will be sanitised for you ahead of starting treatment.
In the current pandemic we are unable to provide soft furnishings and would ask you to supply two towels and a pillow for your treatment. It is also a good idea to bring your own face mask and water bottle but these can be supplied if necessary.
THINGS TO TELL ME BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT
A list of medical conditions and any medications taken (although these should be given at the time of initial consultation).
Any allergies I should we aware of.
It's a good idea to know the sort of pressure you prefer on your feet (firm or gentle) but if you aren't sure I can adapt to suit you.
DO YOU HELP TREAT TERMINAL OR CHRONIC ILLNESS?
Reflexologists cannot claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe.
Reflexology can be used safely alongside standard healthcare to promote better health and wellbeing.
